| With the default blue layout being 00. Thanks to the premade_ljs community for the layout and theme. It's so soulful and reminds me of the Master of Chant cover "Fields of Gold" (actually, I found out later from listening to the lyrics, that these are the lyrics from the song ^__^). It's a bit too moodful perhaps, for a site of this subject matter (computers), but I'm tempted to make this into a fiction blog instead... I also list cosmetics ingredients because I know that I've had trouble finding such lists online (and really, who wants to squint at ingredients list at counters with impatient SA's around?). Please check the posting dates; the ingredients listed are from products brought around the time of the posting. Formulae may change. Also, please do not take these lists to be exact—there may be typos and such. Please take it as a guide if you are say, avoiding animal byproducts such as carmine. | |

| Toolbar Transparency
I am only going to do pseudy (fake) transparency since I've read that "true" transparency really slows you down. It's really easy so this is more a note-to-self than anything else. Right click>Configuration>Transparency>Force Pseudo-Transparency Right click>Configuration>Toolbar>Alpha Where Alpha 255 = 100% opacity Right click or shift+enter = + Left click or enter = -

| Themes Changing the theme is dead straightforward and intuitive; just righclick and navigate to the appropriate submenu.
To install themes, download them and extract to ~/.fluxbox/styles Like Winamp skins, each style should have its own folder, with the name on the folder being what you'll see when you right click to the list of available themes for you to choose.
One nice site I found with Fluxbox themes is: http://tenr.de/styles/allstyles.php
Wallpaper According to the Ubuntu Community Doc for Fluxbox, the wallpaper can be changed by editing the ~/.fluxbox/style document, but being a 100% indecisive and frivolous person who constantly changes her wallpaper, I've been looking for a less complicated way to do so.
You can either use Nautilus to handle that for you: http://fluxbox-wiki.org/index.php/Howto_nautilus_set_bg but I have been having problems getting Nautilus to run without crashing Fluxbox anyway, plus I decided to try Fluxbox to lighten the workload for my aging laptop, and I've heard that Nautilus isn't the most lightweight filemanager around >>>
Enter ROX-Filer, a light-weight, versatile multi-tasker (sounds like some makeup description, ne?). It's a bit different from Nautilus, and frankly, I was quite frustrated with it at first. It's available in the Ubuntu repositories, so that installing it was the easy part.
When I downloaded it, the Fluxbox menu hadn't updated (and being a newbie to Fluxbox, I still don't know how to do that yet), so I just ran $rox-filer in the terminal.
The first thing I (tried to) do was to change the colour scheme. Had to mess with that for a noobishly long while before I found the (embarrassingly) simple solution via Google (sorry, I closed the tab and can't find the site from which I got it from, but here it is): right-click>options. What I did was click straight away on "colours" (w00t! Noticed that it's got British spelling~ little things like these please me ;P ), which is located beneath "Types". Instead, click on "Types", and it lets you choose Icon Themes. It also shows you how to install new icons which, (if only I hadn't been panicking like a noob to notice) already scores points (IMO) for usability.
To set the wallpaper with ROX-Filer:- In the terminal, type $rox --pinboard=nameofpinboard
- Rightclick anywhere on the background, and select Backdrop
- Drag and image file onto the Backdrop dialogue box, and toggle with settings (Centre, Scale, etc.)
- Click Close
- By now, you should have realised one problem: the right-click menu of the Rox-Filer Pinboard overrides the Fluxbox menu. To fix this, right-click>ROX-Filer>Options>Compatibility>Select "Pass all backdrop mouse clicks to window manager". Rightclick again, and you should get the Fluxbox menu.
- To start Fluxbox automatically with the ROX-Filer Pinboard, edit the ~/.fluxbox/startup file by adding: rox-filer --pinboard=PIN beneath the sections that say "Applications you want to run with fluxbox..." (btw, I just <3 how this file is so chatty and friendly ^__^ )Just makes sure that it is above the line: exec /usr/bin/fluxbox In the Ubuntu Docs, it says that background but running applications should have an & at the end while foreground applications like GAIM shouldn't. I'm not sure which category this falls under, but I've tried both and so far, both have worked. The only difference that I have noticed is when you first log in, the screen is black. Click anywhere and immediately, the toolbar and background load.
To set the ROX-Filer Wallpaper:- Pretty much the same as above. Open a terminal and type $rox--pinboard=nameofpinboard
- There shouldn't be any change from on the screen since the right-click for ROX-Filer menu was disabled. So, go back to the terminal and type $rox-filer
- Right-click anywhere on the ROX-Filer window and select Options>Compatibility>Deselect "Pass all backdrop mouse clicks to window manager". Click OK but you don't close the ROX-Filer window.
- Right-click on the desktop and follow the above steps 2-5.
Obviously, this may be as tedious as having to edit the Fluxbox Startup file every time, but I prefer this as I'm a bit nervous about editing the Startup file too much (as with all other configuration files) plus, for the days when I get selective amnesia and forget certain terminal commands/which files to edit/and omgggg!!! how do I enable hidden files????!!! this is another alternative that may slip the amnesia trap. Who knows.
The cool thing about this however, is that ROX-Filer allows different pinboards. In other words, every time I would like to start a new Pinboard, I would just type in the terminal $rox--pinboard=nameofNEWpinboard All Pinboards are saved in ~/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/pb_PIN/ and you can delete them as you wish. This means that if you say, want to switch between different backdrops and can remember its Pinboard name, all you need to do is type $rox--pinboard=desiredpinboardname I think there may be a way to set a different backdrop for different workspaces but I haven't figured out how to yet. Also, this may not necessarily be the best way to set a backdrop in Fluxbox, but I just started using Fluxbox yesterday so this is what I have for now.
One other thing is that ROX-Filer Pinboards let you place icons, so this bypasses Fluxbox's minimalism (which I like). Also, I found that the pinboard iconised all my minimised windows, which kinda annoyed me since the Fluxbox toolbar already takes care of that. Took another while to find out how to resolve that, but it's in Options>Pinboard>Iconified windows>uncheck "Show iconified windows". This is the ROX-Filer manual, but personally, I thought this was much easier to follow.

| An easy to use converter can be found in the repositories, but I found that it would make the song duration appear longer than it actually is. This isn't a huge problem in itself, except when you want to burn the said song onto a CD, you may find a huge gap (and wasted space on the disc) between the said song and the next. I have used Audacity with the necessary codecs to convert a wma easily. Another way to do this conversion is via the terminal (replace italicised text): ffmpeg -i input.wma -acodec vorbis -aq 100 output.ogg
Source: Linux Questions - How to convert wma to oggIf an I/O error message suggesting that the file may be "truncated", then the likely issue would be an incorrect filename or one with special characters.
